Stephenson Academy – Network Audit

Stephenson (MK) Trust is based in the north of Milton Keynes and was the first sponsored Special School Academy in the country, opening its doors on 1st April 2012. Their sponsors are St Paul’s Catholic School, a local secondary school in Milton Keynes and SERCO a national provider of educational services. They support students, both male and female, with Statements of Special Education Needs for Social, Emotional and Mental Health. Currently they cater for students aged 11-19, taking students from Year 7 to Year 13 and have 4 academies across the Trust.

  • Specialist School – 11-19 years of age
  • 4 Academies Within Trust
  • Lack of power for new WiFi installation
  • Inefficiencies in the current network structure
  • Disorganised and unidentifiable network cabling
  • Independent network audit completed

The Solution

Stephenson (MK) Trust required a full audit of their network to identify exactly where the inefficiencies were and recommendations on how the network could be improved. Our specialist engineers carried out a full inventory of the network structure, as well as physically mapping out every cable and its function. Our aim is always to try and reuse any existing hardware where possible to minimise costs whilst ensuring optimum performance from your network, as well as providing independent advice of improvements where necessary.

The Result

Redway Networks provided an independent review of the entire network and all cables within the cabinet. All cables were traced, redundant cables were identified, as well as complete reorganisation of all remaining efficient cables. A comprehensive audit report was then compiled and documented by Redway Networks of the analysis including inventory, configuration and network topology, as well as highlighting any concerns. The review was also presented using our traffic light system to roadmap the network, highlighting what was working currently, recommendations of updating devices within the next 6-12 months and emphasising any urgent changes. This allowed the IT department to have a complete overview and to make decisions based on priorities, factoring in any further improvements within their annual financial plans.
